背龍被發布在2009年4月22日和氣球、白日夢、粉紅、條紋、日升／日落、鞭尾一起。背龍有紫色和紅色兩種不同的顏色，兩種的相異之處僅在外觀和稀有性上，如果你繁殖背龍，可以得到紫色或紅色的背龍蛋。紫色的背龍是非常常見的，幾乎都能在棄蛋區看到，而紅色的背龍是少見的，紅色背龍不被視為真正的「Alts」（alternate forms of the same species，替代型態的同一物種），且紅背龍蛋可從龍洞首頁得到（Alts只能靠繁殖來得到），很顯然，你得到哪種顏色的蛋，意味著你就得到哪種顏色的背龍。

 成年龍

Dorsal dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; They raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.
背龍是如此命名，因為牠們的背上有很大的棘膜沿著背部，可以隨意的升高和降下，牠們利用棘膜來調節體溫：當牠們覺得太熱，便升起棘膜來降溫。有著鮮豔色彩的棘膜同時也可以用來吸引配偶。
